The girls have gone really hairy despite me rugging them all summer and I am in two minds to know what to do with them. I am worried that if I clip them they will be too much for the children to handle but if I don't I can probably kiss goodbye to all hope of places in the YHOTY classes which we have aimed for all summer. After these two weekends they probably won't be out competing too much and the children will be riding mainly at weekends once it gets colder anyway. If I do go the clipping route what would be best to do? Shaun is back showing Breeze as a native again but obviously Bella is still plaited, so does that affect the type of clip I go for? I don't want to scare the kids, especially Jasmine as she is not as gung-ho as Shaun to start off with.

Yes we have qualified so I really want to finish the summer season on a good note and the kids have gone to every club show this season and tried their hearts out so I dont want to let them down by not having the ponies right.
The in hand classes are on the 5th October and the ridden are on the 12th, both at Tickhill.

There is a mixture of qualifiers and non-qualifiers. I have sent an email to the organiser to get her to send me soft copies of the schedules and I will forward them to you as soon as I get them.

we tend to wait until they have full winter coats (october half term-ish), then whip it all off apart from legs, so it grows back without stripes or lines! rugged up from then and they usually get their summer coat by start of spring shows, few warm days in feb/march chuck them out with no rugs to roll sratch and generally get their coat moving quicker. they always look alright anyway

Starman has a "chaser" Clip and stripes down his legs. Being a dark bay, bordering on Black , he goes that horriable "mouse" color

Well I bit the bullet and clipped them both. Rather pleased with myself considering I haven't clipped for ten years, so they are not perfect, but never mind. I am expecting the judges to have a fit tomorrow at Breeze particularly but I did check with the WPCS and it does say I can clip as long as I don't touch the legs! I guess if we are at the bottom of the line up it will be no different than last week for Shaun anyway (which I thought he did not deserve but that's another story). They were the woolliest things on the Showground and Bella still won one class but there was a lot of muttering about shaggy ponies from the spectators.................
If the worst ccmes to it I shall hide them until the hair grows back!!!!!!!!

Well it paid off to a point! The judge was laughing though and said Bella was the only pony he has seen with labrador ears!!!!!! They are very hairy (I left the front of her face on) but I don't think it affected her placings!
