Hi first post so be gentle lol ... My hubbie will be showing our ISH Filly inhand who will be a yearling in march, the show is not until may which is in belfast ( balmoral show) ... What would you recommend ( dress code ) ... he really does not want to wear a hat ... does he have to ? ... he has strawberry blonde/ginger hair so not every colour will go ... the filly is bay with black points on the legs no white markings , she is currently 15.2hh . He is not horsey at all lol but i have to say leads her very well, I mean dont get me wrong , he helps me out any time and I have seen him talk away to her but ssshhuusshhh dont tell him that, I think its very sweet of him though .. Advice please xx

Balmoral is a big show, so he's definately going to have to be smart (and wear a hat unfortunately). Men tend to wear a shirt and tie with sturdy shoes/boots (brown or black), then usually a jacket with trousers eg www.langallerfarm.co.uk/admin/gallery/10%20-%20filly.jpg or a suit. With a tweed jacket he could wear a flat cap, bowler or suede type hat. A bowler is more correct with a suit. He will look out of place without a hat, he'll only be looking like everyone else if he wears one

Ok heres what I was thinking ... Cream coloured trousers ( filly has black legs) ... Brown jacket or dark green jacket ? no idea what colour of shirt or tie ....he suits tans, browns that sort of thing , remember hes got ginger/strawberry blonde hair .
NOW ... about the hat ... his words are something like ... "Im not bleeping wearing a hat :S :S .... hmmmm what to do what to do .

Large shows often won't allow you in the ring without a hat, so he must take one "just in case" at least, or you may have gone for nothing.

My new OH loves to do stewarding and a bit of inhand showing he wears dk brown boots drk beige trousers a green/brown tweed jacket [which we got for £10 at the E of E show!!] and cream shirt ...the tie colour is hotly debated depending on the horse being shown..green for my chestnut, blue for the greys and red for the bays and coloureds he wears a bowler for the bigger shows and flat cap for others he wears his aussie leather hat sometimes for stewarding...keeps the rain off [and the snow!] I just love to see a chap with a bowler and a cob
