???My little fat man seems to be very itchy on his mane and especially his tail... he can't come in as he will itch constantly. He itched his entire mane off last autumn pics below... from this... to this... (had 3 months growth when this was taken so was a fair bit shorter!) do you think he might have sweet itch? he is very itchy now but only on the top of his tail. Never had a horse/pony with it so don't know what signs to look out for.

have you bathed him, it could either be grease build up or you might have not rinsed soap out properly (easy to do, we rinse ours a few times to make sure) it could be sweet itch or even mites/lice.
is it scabby or just bald?

neither now - he doesn't have anything to itch on in the field now. When he hogged himself it was scabby in places. When I bath him i tend to rinse with the hosepipe to make sure that all the soap's out. The mane he did a month or so after I showed him so i don't think it was grease build up or soap caused. I now have a hood on him to protect his regrowth! I feel sorry for him as he's obviously irritated by something but I don't know what. Would it be worth trying a sweet itch supplement or would I be wasting my money?

Our shetty has a habit of rubbing himself, but he has had a bath with a special shampoo, but he still does it. We think its habit now. Perhaps DD the shetty queen may be able to help.
