Has anyone got any advice that they would like to share with me about getting started showing, like any books that are good? As you know I have a shetland and a fine type QH. You have kindly recommended that the QH would be 'classified' as a Riding Horse for showing but although I have ridden since I was 8, I have never competed until this year with the shetty. Who was bunged in trailer and carted off to a show - bless him! (He was shown as a yearling so he is more experinced and knew what was expected from him but sadly I feel that I let him down). How would I go about practicing at home? especially with the QH as she has not done anything at all to date. Where she is being started they are having a show which I was planning on leading her down to so that she can have a look.
p.s sorry for the essay!

To try the QH, Are you at a Yard or are there other horses around you? If so, then, get them to ride round the arena/field with you like you would do at a show. even get some one in on foot to "judge". Line up, and go out individually to do a fake show. Even see if a freind would ride her for you.

the best way of learning is whatching people who are at the top of their class and you can pick up so much from them, and ask loads of questions of here, i think i must have asked over a hundered or so on here lol, everyone is really good at answering them xx

I totally agree with Pelly And MB! You could also find a local friendly riding club (as most have shows on a regular basis) and go to watch one without the horses. The benefit there is that you will get chance to have a good look without the distraction of your own horses to deal with, and if you go armed with a smile most people will happily answer questions if you tell them you are wanting to learn. When you take yours to the next one you then have a good idea of the set up (and you may have met someone the first time out who you can find again the second time) so you will be more able to concentrate solely on your horses.
