i know it sounds silly but my friend uses hoof varnish from twinkly toes or something like that? She has a black pony with no white marking only white hoofs (looks wrong) so she put some black hoof varnish on, and it lasts for longer than 1 show, it lasted her 3 days and even then it was only flaking off. Tommy has some gold varnish somewhere but never tried it

This stuff is fab, stays on for ages, even when your horsey decides to nudge the bottle when your putting it on and it goes all over your face ! Its the one called Absorbine Hoof Polish its clear on there but if you go on colour it says black ;D ETA duhh blonde moment meant to post this link www.robinsons-uk.com/products/search.asp?keyword=hoof+oil

Ive found the only gold label stuff that works is their snow white chalk powder!
Absorbine do black hoof polish but you need to wash it off as its not good for their hooves! It is very good stuff though, although Ive heard some judges arent fond of it.
There is also sablene(sp) and they do a black and clear version that I dont think is as bad as the absorbine stuff but works just as well!

There are loads of "hoof" black on the market. As already said you have to take it off.. as it seals the hoof I have used it for years.. but now gone back to "normal" hoof oil! Remember.. the judge is looking at the horse.... not it's hoof's!

bonnie hoofs can be a bit crumbly at times and the hoof oil kinda covers it up and her back feet and like stripey black and white lol
thanks xx

ahh i could kill the person in my horse shop!!!
went in for a look around, they had loads and the absorbine stuff was there but then i saw one which was applied like a shoe polish out of a tube, looked good for a pony that likes to walk around, it didnt say on the tin whether it was black or clear so went and asked the lady this is how the conversation goes Me: excuse me do you know if this is black or clear? Lady: what do you mean is it black? of corse its black, its hoof oil. she said looking down her nose at me Mum: well some say clear... lady: no thats only the effol stuff (actually there were loads) Me: ok then ill have this.
feeling very embarrased and stupid i got it think ok it must be black if shes acting like that!!
got home and guess what... its.....CLEAR!!! it would have been ok if she said umm im not sure i think so but she was so rude!! going back to see if they will change it especially if they say its something its not! should have taken your advice lol xxx

I bought one when we went to Keysoe, it was meant to be non messy, non drip sponge that screws on the top for easy application.......... WRONG!! by the time we had got home it had leaked out in the tack box covering soft body brush with an oily mess! As spider says stick to the red can.

ive got one that just doesnt come of there feet for days and dries them up! so now i use the Lynne Russel one thats sprays on from a can. but will prob go back to the normal red tinned one when it runs out. cheaper and easier i think

I have got some many types - I never try them out enough to have a favorite. The LR liquid seems quite good on my coloureds stripy feet.
