Anyone know of any shows which are holding mare and foal classes? One of our broodmares which we always show with her foal at foot, has decided this year to breed a show hack (the mare is an out and out hunter and has always produced hunter/sport horse foals) but not this year.
So, we've had to pull out of our planned shows as the Schedule reads Hunter Broodmare and Hunter Foal, so where on earth can we show? Not bothered about the mare being judged - she's an old mare who has been there and done it all many times - we just like getting our foals out at least once so they get the experience with mum before going out on their own as yearlings.
Don't care whether the class is mixed breeds - just a class where the mare is judged as purely herself, and the foal is judged on what the judge sees in front of them.
The only shows I can find only seem to have Pony broodmare and foal classes, and to find something is getting absolutely impossible. We've found lots of Show Hack Foal classes, but the mare must also be a Show Hack. We are situated between Newmarket and Ely and can travel about 80 mile radius. If anyone comes up with anything - do please let us know immediately. Thanks.

We are in a similar position- Mare is a riding/sports horse but baby is prob a sports horse/hunter (got some pics in members chat let me know what you think?) All the mare and foal classes are for hunters but we are prob going to do tendring even though its a hunter class and me mare will be the lightest one in there but at least, as you say baby can have mum about first time out, just want the experience. Tending hundred show is in july, schedule on horsedates!

Daft situation for us isn't it when you want to show two different types. If you're still looking to get the baby out - come along to the shows we run in Newmarket (In-Hand only). Both the mare is judged on her own as such, and the baby on its own merits, so it doesn't matter what mum or baby breeding is - you could have a shire mare with a show hack foal so to speak, it is purely judged on the best mare in front of them and the best foal. It's a non-affiliated show but with County Judges doing all the show.
Will look at Tendring schedule in the meantime for ourselves. Keep looking everyone.
